John Deere tractors will use Starlink satellite internet across the U.S.

SpaceX’s Starlink satellite service will be used in John Deere tractors starting this year, confirms the space exploration firm.

In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), Starlink announced that the tractor giant John Deere will equip new and existing machines across the U.S. and Brazil with advanced connectivity.

Starlink satellite service offers high-speed internet in remote locations and it is used by 2.3 million subscribers worldwide as announced last month by SpaceX.

Other than consumer connectivity, SpaceX also offers Starlink services for industry customers. This includes terminals for large ships, aircraft, and on-the-go vehicles.

Back in 2022, John Deere issued a satellite communication (SATCOM) focused request for proposals to “secure cutting-edge solution” that will connect all of its fleets with computers and other smart devices.

Deere mentioned that the company initially seeking vendors that could provide satellite services to its machines. These vendors/service providers could be multiple at once.

With this addition, Deere is looking to enable more productivity and efficiency of its machines for farmers including increased crop production and efficient fuel consumption.

The latest decision could be part of this past proposal and a future strategy to shape the business to connect farmers with more possibilities using better connectivity.
