Prologium, a Taiwanese electric vehicle (EV) battery maker, today opened the first solid-state battery factory in Taoyuan, Taiwan.

The event highlighted the unveiling of a 106Ah solid-state battery manufactured with high-silicon anode at the factory and designed for EVs.

“After 17 years of dedicated effort, ProLogium is thrilled to present next-generation solid-state batteries to the world. The Time is Now,” said Vincent Yang, the founder and CEO of ProLogium.

The Taoyuan site will ship solid-state lithium ceramic batteries to overseas partners this year and could raise its annual product capacity to 26,000 vehicles per year.

Some of these ProLogium partners are Mercedes-Benz, POSCO, FEV, Arkema, and banks from both Taiwan and France and more.

ProLogium invested NT$4.2 billion (US$134 million) in the Taoyuan plant and it will create 1,200 jobs in the city. The initial production at the Taoyuan factory would be around 0.5Gwh and it could ram upto 2GWh based on the market demand.

Since late 2023, the factory has been preparing for high-capacity solid-state batteries for EVs globally. The battery maker said that the company has achieved a yield target of 99.9% for single-layer cells on the trial production line and the optimization to this result continues to happen.

The company revealed that it will advance its technology to achieve a “P-C-R Next-generation Solid-State battery solution. This new battery could increase driving range, improve resource utilization, and reduce costs of production.
