BMW has opened 18 new electrical vehicle (EV) chargers through national parks in Yorkshire with funding provided by BMW’s UK unit.
BMW has installed this partnership with national parks under “Recharge in Nature” and will expand across 15 national parks across the UK through 2025. These EV chargers will support both park visitors and locals.
Among these 18 chargers, twelve have been installed in the Yorkshire Dales National Park:
- Malham National Park Visitor Center
- Dales Countryside Museum in Hawes
- Grassington National Park Visitor Center
Six of these are destined for Danby Lodge National Park Center.
In 2022, Yorkshire Dales National Park hosted 5.1 million visitors according to Neil Heseltine, Chair of the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority and National Parks Partnerships Board Member.

The UK has around 54,000 public charging points and one-third of these are only installed in London. In recent years, the UK’s National Parks recorded 93 million visits.
National Parks cover around 10 percent of England, 20 percent of Wales, and 8 percent of Scotland. Of the 15 National Parks in the UK distributed 10 in England, 3 in Wales, and 2 in Scotland.
It’s expected that the UK’s EV infrastructure rollout is continuously increasing and it will increase to 300,000 by 2030, says Graham Biggs, Corporate Communications Director, BMW UK. BMW Group has a target to achieve CO2 reduction by 2030.
