Samsung and LG starts full fledge iPhone 16 display production
Samsung and LG Display have started mass production of iPhone 16 series display panels ahead of next month’s launch.
Korean website ETNews has reported that these Korean display makers entered the mass production stage for the iPhone 16 series OLED display last month (July 2024).
Apple is expected to increase the target production for this year by significant numbers. It’s expected that the company will buy at least 120 million display panels, more than 30 percent of the 90 million units produced last year.
Samsung will account for 80 million units and LG will produce 43 million units from this figure. These new numbers will enable these two firms to boost their revenue in the second half of this year. Also, the panel prices will continue to increase in the fourth quarter of 2024 based on the demand.
Among these, LG will gain 10 million more shipments in 2023 with a 30 percent shipment hike. On the other hand, Samsung will carry out its operations identical to last year but its share of panel for Pro models will ramp up in 2024.
This year’s iPhone will make some new changes in the display size compared to the iPhone 15. The company has decided to increase the panel size for two models.
New Display
iPhone 16 will add two new display sizes in the Pro series. The standard model will feature a 6.1-inch screen, Plus equip a 6.7-inch, Pro will bring a 6.3-inch and Max will offer a 6.9-inch.
This will be the first time the company will use screens of different sizes for all four models. The current iPhone 15 lineup goes parallel with 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch sizes between standard/Plus and Pro/Pro Max devices.
This year’s iPhone will also house a new chipset for powerful generative AI capability. The Cupertino-based tech giant will introduce these new AI features on the launch date. There could be new changes in the hardware side such as a capture button. With mass production, the iPhone 16 series will launch somewhere next month, followed by its sales.
