Voice mode rolling out to Grok iOS app

Generative AI company xAI has pushed a new app update to the Grok iOS app featuring a new voice mode and the latest Grok 3 AI model for users.

The company has recently released this new AI version for the Grok chatbot with improved reasoning and performance over Grok 2. The model is accompanied by a voice mode with a natural verbal conversation.

xAI team hyped this the voice mode at the end of the Grok 3 launch event but it’s now gradually being made available for testers under beta mode.

The voice mode has two voices – Ara –  female and Rex – male. Once selected, you will have some preset conversation modes including a default with formal conversation but the others are tailored for a different experience:

  • Storyteller
  • Zen master
  • Not a therapist
  • Groc “Doc”
  • Conspiracy Theorist
  • Professor
  • Romantic
  • Unhinged (18+)
  • Sexy (18+)

The last two have no restrictions on words and the conversation a user can conduct with the chatbot. If you use these modes, the app will throw a message that “NSFW MODE ON, Please be respectful of those around you”.

The UI is simple, you need to select a voice, and a mode of conversation and press the start talking button. You can also share your conversation with the share button below or close the entire conversation at once.

Grok 3 is available for free for X, and a standalone Grok website. However, the voice mode is only available for premium+ and Supergrok subscribers.
