Watch Tesla Optimus robot’s rapid leg movements via dance
Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, has posted a video on X, showing the new leg movement of the Optimus robot and how well it is coordinated. A few seconds short published by the Tesla chief reveals Optimus performing a dance sequence with rapid robotic limbs motion.
So far, the company has demonstrated the robot doing simple hand gestures, handing over things to a human, picking objects such as production line components and walking around the office and stairs. However, the new showcase is something different. It’s like going from 1 to 10 at an instance.
In the video, Tesla Optimus is mimicking the steps and gestures that are familiar to humans while performing modern dance styles. It shows the joints and motor’s flexibility and how well the moves are executed in real-time.

The video clip is all about the flexibility and the range of motion that the bot has achieved without falling on the ground. Despite having a massive room for improvements, the current move set reflects on the bot’s development progress.
Milan Kovac, VP of Optimus division, said that the team is working on more developments and the robot will gain new abilities in the near future.
He also explained that the latest dance sequence is entirely trained in simulation with reinforcement learning. This type of machine learning includes an agent, which learns to make decisions by taking actions in an environment to execute tasks. The agent receives feedback in the form of rewards or penalties, which reflects on the machine’s future actions. Meanwhile, The company has made new optimizations and fixes to its simulation to real training code.
He also clarified that the cable behind the robot is not for support, instead, it is to secure the hardware if it falls, while ensuring that a future version will be more stable.
