Tesla has started testing its refreshed Model S Plaid for an upcoming release, with a focus on the performance upgrade. This is a good news for those eagerly awaiting a new version of this luxury vehicle.

Carscoops has scooped spy pictures of a Model S from Nürburgring, covered from the front and the rear. These modifications confirmed that the vehicle is under unreleased and has some new external optimizations.

However, the test design is not much different from the existing Model S. Still, these images have some tidbits to explore. The front spoiler is mounted below the existing bumper, something that you may only find in the performance variants.

The headlights, DRLs graphic, and bumper are similar to the existing Plaid. The side profile reveals 21-inch Arachnid wheels with red brake calipers. Meanwhile, a second version was spotted with bigger wheels and a grounded appearance.

If this is the final design, the refreshed Tesla Model S Plaid will be targeting performance and better drive controls compared to the new Model Y and redesigned Model 3.

The Model S has two variants – All-Wheel Drive and Plaid. The first version offers 380 miles of range, 130 mph top speed and 0-60mph acceleration in 3.1 seconds.

The plaid has 312 miles of range, 200mph top speed, and 0-60mph acceleration in 1.99 seconds. It brings trimotor performance, 1020 horsepower, and could go a quarter mile in 9.23 seconds. We can expect the company to put some more effort into this powertrain and give it an edge over its competitors.

Earlier this year, Lars Moravy, VP of Vehicle Engineering at Tesla, said the EV maker is working on a refresh for two luxury vehicles. It was revealed that the model could unveil as soon as this year, but an official date is not available.
