Six-seat Model Y appears in firmware alongside Grok AI chatbot

Tesla’s six-seat Model Y is making a buzz again after appearing in a firmware code, revealing key details as well as its integration with Grok AI chatbot.
X user @greentheonly revealed that the rumored six-seater Model Y may not be China exclusive as reported in the past, but its targeting market release is currently unknown.
Its firmware had a string “slow down to save energy, people typicall drive this much slower here to save”, which could be related to a new drivetrain feature improvement for efficient range.

A report from last year suggests that Tesla is planning to produce a six-seat variant of the Model Y in China. Since then, the EV maker has been preparing for production and has established a supply chain for a maximum output via the Shanghai factory.
Earlier this year, a five-seat Model Y made a debut with design upgrades including a facelift, front and rear lightbar, a sleek outlook, and better aerodynamics. This EV now has ambient lighting, comfortable front seats, a powered second row, and a separate passenger display for entertainment and climate control.
The company used to offer a seven-seat option with the previous Model Y, but this is no longer available with the newer version.
Tesla’s VP of Engineering, Lars Moravy, confirmed in an interview on Jay Leno’s Garage episode, the new Model Y options will keep on expanding throughout this year.
Grok
The firmware for this new Model Y is accompanied by Grok AI bot code, including its personas:
- argumentative
- assistant

- doctor
- kids_story
- kids_trivia_game
- meditation

These are familiar to those who use Grok and provide different personalities to improve the conversation experience.
Grok is available to use via X, iOS, and Android platforms, and a dedicated grok.com website. Its integration with Tesla is inevitable due to CEO Elon Musk, who also runs xAI, the company behind Grok.
It’s expected that Tesla users will be able to ask Grok about anything in real-time, just like a smartphone. However, an official Grok release may take some time.
