Tesla Robotaxi cabin will not monitor passenger activities unless…
Tesla is set to launch Robotaxi services on Sunday in Austin, Texas, for early users, and the company will maintain privacy by not recording the passenger activities.
The privacy guideline shared by @wholemarsblog reveals that Tesla will keep the cabin camera and microphone off by default, and it will remain so during an active ride.
The cabin camera will be in place to get support or operator assistance in case of an emergency. Once enabled, the occupant will see a green dot indicator on the rear touchscreen menu bar.
Riders will have an option to share the cabin data with Tesla to improve the Robotaxi services. To address the privacy concern, this data will not be collected or associated with the rider’s Tesla ID.
The camera also works as an inspection tool to ensure that the Robotaxi is ready to serve the next ride. For example, by checking the vehicle’s cleanliness or detecting leftover passenger items.

Sound
The vehicle also won’t record in-cabin conversations, but enables it at the time of talking to support or in emergency cases. You will see an orange indicator in the touchscreen menu bar that represents the microphone use.
However, Tesla will be using sound detection outside the vehicle to understand the surrounding environment, such as a nearby siren or an approaching emergency vehicle.
In case of such events, the media volume inside the vehicle will decrease and passenger will see a related notification on the touchscreen. Any of these safety sound detection processes on the vehicle and do not linked to the passenger account.
However, users can opt in to share the data with the company, a choice that can be changed with the mobile app at any time.
