Rivian has officially announced that the R1 Quad launch edition is coming on July 8, bringing the most powerful performance that this electric vehicle lineup has to offer.

A promo posted on social media shows a second-generation R1S electric SUV using the Tank Turn, which allows the vehicle to rotate in place by spinning its wheels in opposite directions. The EV demonstrated this maneuver in sand by revealing July 8, 2025, on the side.

This feature was initially removed from the vehicle due to environmental concerns, and Rivian hasn’t confirmed whether it will be available with the vehicle or is limited only to the marketing campaign.

In June 2024, Rivian introduced the second-generation R1T and R1S. These two are redesigned with new hardware, performance and software upgrades. The vehicle was already introduced in dual, tri, and quad motors. However, only dual and tri motors were available for customers in the beginning.

These two variants come with new large and max battery packs and redesigned modules for efficient packaging. The EPA range in the second-gen goes over 400 miles. Also, the Quad will pack only the max variant.

In terms of design, the second-gen R1 has new headlights with adaptive driving beam technology and redesigned rear lights. The R1S Quad and R1T Quad variants are listed for reservation on the official website with a $3,000 refundable deposit.

The R1T quad version is equipped with a quad-motor all wheel drive drive system, 1,025 horsepower, and it can measure 0-60mp in 2.5 seconds. Compared to this, the tri-motor R1T has 850hp and 0-60mph acceleration in 2.9 seconds.

The Max R1T also offers similar power, except for a slightly reduced performance due to 0-60mph in 2.6 seconds. However, it’s still better than the tri-motor R1S with 2.9 seconds.

Rivian will reveal the actual price of the R1 Quad launch edition series on July 8, so stay tuned for more information.
