Grok 4 and 4 Code referenced in xAI Console, launch imminent

Generative AI company, xAI, has ramped up Grok 4 launch preparations, as this new model has now appeared in the xAI developer console with a few new details. The console has mentioned two models – Grok 4 and Grok 4 Code. The company described Grok 4, “Our latest and greatest flagship model, offering unparalleled performance in natural language, math, and reasoning, the perfect jack of all trades.”.
Here’s the description for Grok 4 Code: “A model purpose-built to be your coding companion. Ask it questions about code or embed directly into your code editor”.
Notably, users will be able to integrate the Grok 4 Code model to Cursor on the first day to provide AI AI-powered coding environment.

The console screenshot shared by Testingcatalog reveals that this access is directed at developers. Another thing to note is that the context window is only 134k, which is lower than other frontier models. However, it suggests that the company is still polishing the model for better performance before full release.
Earlier, xAI Founder and CEO, Elon Musk, also hyped that the new Grok version with superior reasoning. This will provide improved and accurate answers compared to the existing approach of Grok 3.
Musk also teased that Grok 4 will also bring powerful coding capabilities with a specialized model. This dual focus on improving the replies while also surprising coders and developers will scale Grok’s competition against ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude.
Recently, xAI has seeded a couple of features to Grok 3 that let you create program files and test the application online via Grok Studio. You can also host files on its online cloud storage for local access.
Besides this latest developer console appearance, xAI has not shared a launch date for Grok 4 models. However, a report suggests that it should happen in July.
