xAI Grok 4: Features and Release date
Generative AI company xAI is set to launch Grok 4, the next generation Grok family model, with new features, and it will start a new level of intelligence on the release date.
Grok is an AI model, developed as the maximum truth-seeking AI for users, but this model has lost control over its replies and submitted to the misinformation, at least what X social media users claim. They aren’t happy with the chatbot’s information spread on the X, and the same opinion is also shared by the xAI’s founder, Elon Musk.
The most recent version, Grok 3, was released in February. It has upgraded reasoning, supports advanced data review, and provides faster replies. Three new features, DeepSearch, DeepResearch, and Think added to provide in-depth replies.
Rename
xAI initially planned to release the next version as Grok 3.5. However, Musk confirmed that this new model brings a lot more capabilities than the previous generation; therefore, it will be called Grok 4.

Grok 4 Features
This model will purely target competition and aim to achieve an edge over rivals. Here are the three major aspects of upgrades that this model family will bring.
Reasoning
One of the core upgrades is reasoning from first principles. The company wants to fix all of its response errors, remove biases, and improve information-gathering mechanisms. Training with the first principle focuses on objective, foundational truths and avoids reliance on data influenced by narratives and unverified claims.
That means Grok will be able to generate answers from the very basic with raw data using logical reasoning to draw a conclusion.
For example, Grok 4 will explain the technical aspects of rocket engines or an electric vehicle motor. This means it will create answers that aren’t available on the internet by focusing on the fundamentals of that particular field and segment rather than relying on industry standards.
This is one example of the new reasoning capabilities, and we can see even more use cases when the model goes online.

Coding
Gemini, ChatGPT, and Anthropic are some of the popular tools that are taking AI coding to new levels. And xAI will be added as a new name in this list with the Grok 4 code. This will be a specialized model with advanced coding features.
Similar to a text conversation, the Grok 4 code model will utilize the first principle mechanism to generate programs, aiming to deliver the most accurate code and debugging in a selected language.
Grok 4 code will support CLI integration to expand support for app development from their selected IDE. It will be ready to use with Cursor from day one of the release.
Grok 3 also supports programming in different languages, but a specialized model is likely to offer more than what we currently have.

Performance
Colossus, xAI’s huge AI supercomputer, will power up the latest model. The company completed 200,000 Nvidia GPUs at the Memphis facility by early 2025. We could anticipate that the company will grow the number of GPUs with a new model, but an official confirmation is still awaited.
Grok 4 Release date
Musk first announced the Grok 3.5 release for early May, but the model’s evolution has been forcing the xAI team to move the launch. For the past two months, the developers have been training Grok and have concluded that it should be released as Grok 4.
A week ago, the xAI chief said that version 4 could be released after the 4th of July, but the wait is still stretching. However, recent leaks suggest that the model is could launch anytime soon.
