Tesla CEO announces Robotaxi service area’s first expansion
Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, has announced that the Robotaxi service area will expand in Austin by this weekend. This will be the first major expansion in its autonomous ride-hailing vehicle project since launch.
Last month, the company unveiled its autonomous taxi in Austin, Texas, to host passengers from start to end point. Tesla is serving customers with Model Ys featuring unsupervised Full Self Driving (FSD). This version of the self-driving doesn’t require a person on the driving seat, which is mandatory in the supervised FSD.
The initial rollout is limited to invite-only, which means Tesla’s Robotaxis are available to selected people rather than the public. This is a common practice for new autonomous vehicle testing.
However, the company is gradually expanding invitations to more users and taking feedback to improve the services. Early customers will provide important feedback to help improve the service and prepare it for public rollout.

These users are provided with early access to the Robotaxi app, allowing them to see the geofenced area, select a destination, order a ride, view live status, and more. The app is designed well to serve ride-hailing features and provide a better user experience.
That’s not it, Tesla CEO is also anticipating an expansion in Robotaxi service in the Bay Area in Q3 but the regulatory approval is still pending.
