AI company, xAI, has released the Grok 4 model lineup, its most powerful AI model with the highest academic intelligence, which surpasses not only Grok 3 but all of the existing competitors.

Basically, Grok 4 is aiming to simplify a wide range of tasks, including writing, research, coding, mathematics, data visualization and more. It comes in two variants – Grok 4 and Grok 4 Heavy, these are single and multi-agent models respectively.

Unlike Grok 4, the Heavy version forms multiple agents in parallel. These agents work independently on a single problem. Each analyzes the query, generates a solution, and compares the output to come up with the right answer. Musk dubbed this process a “study group”, which summarizes the model’s problem-solving capability thanks to simultaneous computation across agents for maximum efficiency and accuracy.

This is an all-around upgrade for the Grok family to fix a major problem in replies, while also providing some of the most unique capabilities, including problem solving for users.

For example, Grok 3 has a major issue with replies due to its traditional training practices. However, Grok 4 equips new reasoning from first principles, which adds a new level of data analysis to create an answer and factually verify it. As demonstrated during the launch livestream, the latest model family can tackle complex mathematical equations with deep analysis.

Elon Musk, CEO of xAI, said that Grok 4 has a higher intelligence than any graduate student in all disciplines simultaneously. “Grok 4 is better than a PhD level in every subject in academic questions,” Musk added.

Grok 4 is available for SuperGrok and X Premium+ users, while, Grok 4 Heavy is exclusive to SuperGrok Heavy users.

Future

xAI has shared a roadmap to add new features to Grok 4 with a new specialized coding model within a few weeks. On the other hand, the video generation model will also go online by the end of this year.
