Meta scooped two more AI researchers from Apple

Meta has hired two Apple Intelligence researchers after scooping its head of the AI program in a hiring spree to build a superintelligence system.

According to Bloomberg, the world’s largest social media platform group has hired Mark Lee and Tom Gunter, both have recently joined Meta to chase new AI projects. This scoop comes after Ruoming Pang, the leader of Apple’s AI products, has fled to Meta in a multi-million dollar contract.

It’s reported that the Pang was offered around $200 million to enter Meta in order to support its AI ambitions. The pair that joined Pang in this pursuit has been following his lead at Apple.

Meta Founder, Mark Zuckerberg, said that his company is planning to spend billions of dollars on building massive AI facilities. He also promised to set up a large multi-gigawatt data center, Prometheus, which is set to become functional in 2026. This data center will cover an area nearly the size of Manhattan at 59.1 square kilometers.
