Tesla CEO says Robotaxi like improvements will come to FSD supervised users
Tesla CEO, Elon Musk said a new update is coming to FSD supervised users that will take improvements from unsupervised Robotaxi software to provide a new user experience.
“Your Tesla self-driving capability will see a step change improvement as we integrate upgrades for the Austin robotaxi build into the general production release,” the Tesla chief made this announcement on the social media site X. Musk’s post signals that a significant change to Full Self Driving for general customers will bring some advancements from Robotaxi code.
The general production vehicle uses supervised self-driving, which means the owner must monitor the vehicle’s movement on the road and be ready to take the wheel in a complicated situation. On the other hand, the Robotaxi vehicle, a fully autonomous self-driving service, equips unsupervised FSD, there’s no driver required to monitor the car. However, the early version of the robotaxi has a safety monitor on the right side of the front row.

For now, Musk hasn’t revealed any specific upgrades to the FSD supervised. However, he confirmed that these new robotaxi-like improvements to the FSD supervised program must be validated before a public rollout. Furthermore, these will first be released in Austin and expand beyond.
During the robotaxi service launch, Tesla confirmed that every new vehicle coming out of the production line is capable of unsupervised FSD. We can verify that robotaxi vehicles has no special equipment or hardware that is different from the general production model.
However, the company will require permission to rollout unsupervised self-driving in different states. On the other hand, supervised FSD doesn’t have such stipulations.
