Lucid Air getting Tesla NACS supercharger access but only at 50 kW

Electric vehicle (EV) maker Lucid has announced that its Lucid Air sedan will get Tesla NACS Supercharger access starting July 31 in the U.S.

It means, all of the Lucid Air models, including any model year, will be able to charge at a Supercharger using a NACS adapter. The company has priced the DC NACS to CCS1 adapter at $220 excluding taxes and supports all V3 and above stalls.

The most interesting fact about this integration is the charging speed. Lucid Air customers will only get up to 50kW charging rate at a Supercharger, taking about an hour to fill 200 miles.

For those who don’t know, V3 superchargers can deliver peak charge rate up to 250kW, and V4 can go beyond that, for example, Cybertruck can currently charger at 325kW. With that speed, Model S can charger 200 miles in 15 minutes, Model 3 and X charges 175 miles, Model Y charges 162 miles in the given time.

On the one hand, Lucid is saying it’s a leader in range and efficiency, and on the other hand, it is making people wait for the slow charging rate, which it could increase up to 225 kW. We’re not getting Lucid’s logic at the point in time, but the company might explain this approach maybe later.

Unlike Air, Lucid Gravity, a mid-size electric SUV, comes with NACS port and provides this charger access from day one to its customers. Compared to its sedan-formed alternative, Lucid Gravity boasts up to 400kW charging and supports max speed output of both V3 and V4.

Lucid Air owners can access Tesla Superchargers via Lucid App, and pay via credit card saved to their Lucid Wallet.
