xAI launches Grok Imagine – new video generation feature

AI company xAI has launched the Imagine feature, enabling Grok users to generate videos from the app with a prompt just like a text conversation. This is an entirely new step for Grok, as it has only been used for text conversation, but the early-stage improvements are niche.

With this release, xAI has also made some new changes in the Grok mobile app by adding the Ask and Imagine tabs on top of the screen. Users can navigate between the two spaces anytime to conduct a text conversation or generate videos.

Mati Roy from the xAI team has shared a thread of examples from the new Grok Imagine feature, showing what the output may look like.

Elon Musk, founder and CEO of xAI, has also promoted this feature, calling it “super fun”. However, users online have compared the early version with Google’s Veo3 and don’t agree. While this might be true, Grok has its own art generation and requires some new optimizations and training to improve the final output.

Grok Imagine will generate four clips for the results and allow you to scroll infinitely with rapid generation of similar outputs. These clips will also have sounds to make them interesting.

Grok Imagine is currently available behind the waitlist, and users will require the SuperGrok subscription, which might come with free trials later.
