Customers taking Tesla delivery from Giga Texas will get 24-hour Robotaxi access
Tesla is asking customers to take an early delivery of their vehicle from Giga Texas and get 24-hour access to the Robotaxi service. This is a unique offer for those who’ve placed an order for a Model Y and have a pending delivery date.
The notification confirms that the offer applies to customers on the delivery day. Specifically, the access will be assigned at 12 AM on the pickup day and will end at 11:59 PM. So, you can decide the delivery day and roam around Austin with the Robotaxi before reaching Giga Texas. However, you may have to wait for your turn to ride the Robotaxi, similar to other users. Since it’s not mentioned in the notice, you are likely to pay for each ride.
Eligible users have to download the Robotaxi app from the App Store and sign in to their Tesla account. This autonomous vehicle service is limited to a geofenced area in Austin, and the app will show you the extent of the map that you can travel.
You can take up to two people for the rides, but you must stay together all the time during the ride. Tesla will put a safety employee on the vehicle during the trip to monitor and provide a safe experience.
The company has employed around 20 Model Ys as Robotaxis in the Austin Area to offer autonomous rides in the allowed area. The EV maker has outlined its plans to expand this service in other states and cities as it clears the pending regulatory approvals.
