xAI’s Grok will make watchable movies by 2026 – Elon Musk
Elon Musk, Founder and CEO of xAI, said that Grok will generate watchable movies by 2026. This is a big goal as xAI continues research on advanced computing and new features for the AI model.
Grok AI is powered by xAI’s SOTA large language model and enables users to have text conversations, generate images, and, a few months ago, it also started offering short video generation capability. Except for the quality, Grok briefly follows the user instructions and outputs a good video. However, a recent update has made some improvements to the image model, retouching the quality as well.
During the launch of Grok 4 and Grok 4 Heavy models in July, Musk also revealed a roadmap for future model releases, including a frontier video generation model. According to the roadmap, this video-specific model was expected to be released in October, but the delivery is running late.
There are two reasons for that: unlike conversation training, the video model learning takes more time, and verifying its results for adequate quality is another major challenge.
This video model started training in August with 100k Nvidia GB200 GPUs featuring Blackwell architecture, which is designed for high-performance AI training. The initial target is to generate a half-hour and then move to an hour-long output in the next milestone.
“Grok will make a movie that is at least watchable before the end of next year and really good movies in 2027,” Musk wrote on X.

This seems possible, but achieving this length will require a lot of training, and the company needs to do a lot of work on how it can handle such a load on the server, keeping it busy for such a long time as it generates long videos.
