Anthropic launches Claude sidebar for Microsoft Excel

Anthropic has announced Claude access for Microsoft Excel with an add-on for real-time market data and portfolio analytics with pre-built Agent Skills.

This new integration enables users to work directly with Claude via the sidebar in Excel, where Claude can read, analyze, modify, and create Excel workbooks.

In this process, Claude will keep users updated with its actions and explain new changes, while allowing users to navigate to the cells it references in its explanations.

With this add-on, users can discuss with Claude about how a spreadsheet works, know its modification process, debug, and fix cell formulas, populate templates with new data and assumptions, or build new spreadsheets from scratch.

Claude apps already allow users to create and edit files, including Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint slides, and connect to Microsoft 365 to search for files, emails, and Teams conversations. Furthermore, Microsoft Copilot Studio and Research agent are also offering Claude models.

Anthropic has confirmed that Claude for Excel is now available in beta as a research preview for Max, Enterprise, and Teams users. The company is now looking for valuable feedback from 1,000 early beta testers before expanding this feature for public users.
