Claude has officially announced that the native installer of Claude Code is now generally available, offering a simpler, Node.js-free setup with a more reliable auto-updater.

This announcement positions it as the go-to method for all users due to its streamlined process and enhanced reliability. Existing users can upgrade by closing sessions and running claude install in their terminal (with caveats for Alpine/musl distributions—check docs).

New installs are straightforward via Homebrew (brew install –cask claude-code) or scripts for macOS/Linux/WSL and PowerShell for Windows.

Anthropic Claude Code Native Installer is now General Availabile

Here are some of its top features.

  • Stable Auto-Updater: Reduces failed updates and “bricked” installs for smoother maintenance.
  • Self-Contained Executable: Runs independently without Node.js dependencies, simplifying setup and compatibility.
  • Cross-Platform Ease: Native support for macOS, Linux, WSL via curl/bash script; Windows via PowerShell—full docs at https://docs.claude.com/en/docs/claude-code/setup.
