Black Flag VC, a program from Harpoon Ventures, has announced a new partnership with xAI to support startups working on U.S. national security technologies, offering free Grok credits.

Black Flag focuses on early-stage companies in fields like aerospace, defense, AI, robotics, and cybersecurity. It provides investments from $250,000 to $1 million, along with hands-on help to connect with government programs and military buyers.

xAI builds advanced AI systems, including Grok, a generative AI tool that helps users to explore complex ideas. Grok offers fast and informative answers and is available through apps and an API for developers. It includes features for business and enterprise use, such as improved data processing.

Under the partnership, Black Flag program applicants will get free credits for Grok AI and direct access to its tools. This collaboration is built on Black Flag’s existing support, which includes partnerships with companies like Microsoft and Anthropic for similar resources.

The move comes as Grok gains traction in government offices. Earlier this week, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth confirmed plans for the Department of Defense to adopt Grok for handling Controlled Unclassified Information. This also highlights AI’s growing role in secure data management, but not limited to.

Grok and similar AI tools could play a major role in providing support for startups. Free access to Grok can help them build better products, analyze data quickly, and speed up development in defense areas. Furthermore, it may also make it easier for small teams to compete and grow.

Broader implications involve strengthening U.S. security through AI. Eventually, the collaboration between xAI and Black Flag VC encourages tech firms to work with the government to strengthen AI growth in different sectors.
