Tesla has launched a new 420W solar panel accompanied by a new installation system called the Tesla Panel Mount. This launch focuses on making home solar power more efficient, reliable, and easier to set up.

The new 420W Tesla Solar Panel uses cascading cell technology, the same kind found in Tesla’s Solar Roof products. This design creates 18 power zones in each panel, three times more than most standard solar panels. With more power zones, the panel loses less energy when part of it is shaded by trees, chimneys, or clouds. As a result, it can produce more electricity overall, even in less-than-perfect conditions.

The panel also has a sleek, all-black look with a uniform appearance. It measures about 71.1 inches by 44.7 inches and 1.57 inches thick (including the frame). It comes with a 25-year product and performance warranty, and it works in a wide range of temperatures, from -40°F to +185°F.

The biggest change in installation comes from the new Tesla Panel Mount hardware. Instead of using traditional rails and clamps, it features a groove-based system. The hardware simply rocks into the panel’s frame for quick assembly.

Tesla says this makes installation 33% faster than many other systems. It also reduces roof penetrations by up to 15%, which means fewer holes in the roof, lower risk of leaks, and potentially lower long-term costs.

The low-profile design keeps panels close to the roof with skirts that blend in nicely, and there are no visible fasteners. This system works on different roof types, including shingle, tile, metal, and flat roofs.

These upgrades aim to improve both performance and the overall user experience for homeowners interested in solar energy. The panels pair well with Tesla’s Powerwall batteries for storing energy and providing backup during outages.

Pricing for Tesla solar systems varies by home size, location, and energy needs. The company hasn’t fixed prices per panel on its site. Instead, the all-in cost for a typical home solar system (including panels, installation, and other parts) ranges from about $2.74 to $3.30 per watt, based on U.S. Department of Energy data.

For an average 8-kilowatt system, this works out to roughly $21,900–$26,400 before any incentives. Tesla offers financing and low monthly lease options to make solar more affordable. Homeowners can get a custom quote by designing a system on the Tesla website or consulting with an advisor.
