SpaceX continues to grind Super Heavy Booster 19 with third cryo proofing test
SpaceX is advancing development of its Starship system with intensive testing on Super Heavy Booster 19. This booster, the first of the Version 3 design, is undergoing cryogenic proof tests at the Massey’s test site in Texas.
Cryogenic proof testing involves filling the booster’s tanks with liquid nitrogen. This simulates the low temperatures and pressures experienced with liquid oxygen and methane propellants during flight.
The process checks for leaks, measures material performance, and confirms the tank design can handle operational stresses. Version 3 introduces improvements for better reliability and performance compared to earlier boosters.

Recent tests have focused on repeated cycles of pressurization and depressurization. On the night of February 6-7, 2026, Booster 19 completed its third cryogenic proof session. Inputs coming from Nasaspaceflight and Starshipgazer confirms multiple depressurization vents, which released large clouds of vapor. These vents appeared dramatic under night lighting, with illuminated mist rising from the vehicle. However, everything appeared nominal and indicated controlled operations.
The booster remained vertical on the test stand, surrounded by support tanks and infrastructure. Visuals highlighted its stainless steel structure, showing the forward dome, methane tank, and oxygen tank sections.
These tests preparing Booster 19 to integrate with the upcoming Starship Flight 12. The rocker maker uses these ground tests to gather data and refine the design. Each cycle brings the vehicle closer to flight readiness compared to the previous anomaly.
Super Heavy is the largest and most powerful booster ever built. It features 33 Raptor engines and is designed for full reusability. Successful cryo proofing is a key milestone before static fire tests and flight operations.
With SpaceX keeping the pressure testing on the swing, it appears the the Super Heavy Booster 19 has a pretty good chance of making a way to single engine and all engine static fire burn before Flight Test 12.
