Anthropic releases Cowork for Windows, extending this Claude feature in full parity with its macOS version. With this update, Cowork brings file handling, multi-step task execution, plugins, and MCP connectors to Windows users.

Global and folder-specific instructions persist across sessions for consistent behavior. However, Cowork is currently labeled as a research preview. It remains available exclusively to paid Claude plans. And Windows users can download it from the official Claude site.

The announcement addresses strong Windows user demand, which appeared after its initial Mac launch. Cowork works like a digital teammate.

With this, Claude accesses designated folders, reads and edits files, executes complex workflows, and provides updates. It handles non-technical tasks such as organizing files, drafting documents from notes, or analyzing data in spreadsheets.

This release builds on earlier updates. Anthropic previously added plugin support to customize Claude for specific roles or teams. Interactive tools and project mentions enhance context retention. Recent model advancements, including Claude Opus 4.6, boost autonomous performance within Cowork.

Moreover, the Windows support removes a key barrier. Users in PC-dominant workplaces now integrate the agent without switching operating systems. The tool runs in a secure, sandboxed environment to protect user systems.

Meanwhile, demand for Cowork grows steadily. Users can explore practical applications like research aggregation, content creation, and workflow automation. Anthropic continues rapid iteration in this research phase.
