Rivian has launched a brand new mobile app for Apple Watch users, bringing a brand new design and features for EV owners. The special characteristics of Rivian, the new mobile software, make everyday tasks quicker and more intuitive.

The app has vehicle controls that let you tap to lock or unlock doors, vent windows, or trigger the alarm. You can spin the digital crown to set the charge level or tweak the air conditioning. It allows customization of up to four quick actions, such as preheating the seats before a drive.

On first-gen models, you tap the lock icon while the app runs in the background to get in and go. Second-gen vehicles enable passive entry once you set up the digital key, so the car unlocks as you approach.

In terms of design, the app mirrors the iPhone version for an identical feel. You can show battery info on your watch face for at-a-glance updates, showing your vehicle’s color and style. Icons for climate, energy, and security match your preference, including the Gear Guard.

The new Rivian app supports any Apple Watch paired with an iPhone. If you are starting fresh, open the App Store and download the app or check for the update in a similar manner. The new app supports both Gen 1 and Gen 2 vehicles, though some features, like passive unlock, will work better on the latest releases.

Author’s take

Early users report smooth performance across models, with some highlighting how it turns the watch into a reliable digital key for older vehicles, too.

The watch app makes the user-to-vehicle connection simpler and more effective compared to a smartphone. This new Rivian app will do the same for the vehicle owners.
