Deutsche Telekom has partnered with SpaceX for Starlink Mobile tech to connect smartphones directly to satellites and reduce dead zones across Europe. Starting early 2028, customers in ten countries will be able to access voice, text, data, and video calls even in remote mountains, dense forests, or protected nature areas.

Connected phones will have the ability to switch automatically between ground networks and space signals, so you never notice the change. This partnership is expected to serve more than 140 million subscribers by utilizing Starlink’s new V2 satellites for 5G speeds from orbit.

The service fills gaps that traditional builds cannot touch because of terrain or environmental rules. Telekom already has 90 percent of Germany covered with 5G and over 99 percent with voice on the ground, yet some spots stay out of reach. Satellites now add that missing layer without extra hardware or dishes.

Importantly, the service doesn’t require any modification to existing phones, and the network handles the rest. It also makes service more reliable during storms, power cuts, or emergencies when landlines fail.

Starlink satellite service is bringing its next-generation Mobile Satellite Service spectrum to the table for the first time in Europe. These V2 satellite offers 100 times more data capacity than earlier models, so streaming and browsing feel exactly like home Wi-Fi.

The deal announced marks the biggest direct-to-cell rollout yet in the region. Compatible devices will keep growing in the run-up to launch, and more operators worldwide already test similar links.

Europe’s patchwork of rules slowed things down, but the path now opens wide. Telekom strengthens its “everywhere network” promise while Starlink expands its global direct-to-cell footprint to over 32 countries. Rural hikers, island residents, and anyone stuck in signal black spots finally get full bars. The move also pushes competition, keeping future prices fair and coverage strong.

This partnership turns mobile service into true everywhere access. Millions will soon stay connected without limits. European customers can use their carrier app for device compatibility updates and sign up for rollout alerts.
