Nissan and Mitsubishi announced €800 million investment in Renault EV unit Ampere

Nissan and Mitsubishi announced investment plans in the French car maker’s electric vehicle (EV) unit Ampere on Wednesday. The investment will become a key to launching new EVs for the European market.

This new investment also marks the start of a new partnership between the three car makers leading to a pathway in the world of EVs.

Nissan and Mitsubishi announced 600 million euros ($647.46 million) and 200 million euros respectively in Ampere.

With this investment plan, Nissan may use Ampere’s software and connectivity innovations in other markets outside Europe.

Further, Ampere will develop and manufacture an electric version of Nissan Micra for the European market as well as a medium-sized electric SUV for Mitsubishi.

The parties involved also announced similar joint projects for other markets including India and Latin America.

In September, three of these automaker ended their common purchasing agreement. However, Nissan, Renault, and Mitsubishi came up with a new plan to collaborate in the field of EV with this new investment plan.
