Deliveries for the upgraded Tesla Model 3 may stop in Australia due to a violation of the country’s vehicle technical compliance.

Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, and the Arts spokesperson said that the department is aware of the concerns regarding the child restraint anchorage points in the 2024 Tesla Model 3 and looking into this matter.

The latest fault was found in the existing delivered Tesla Model 3 2024 version and shows that it doesn’t have an accessible rear center top-tether point.

Top tethers are used with forward-facing car seats that have a harness. Using a tether is essential. To understand why, think about how a car seat is installed in a vehicle. Use either the seat belt or two lower attachments on the car seat to secure it to the vehicle.

Australian Design Rules (ADRs) regulate all of vehicle seats with a seatbelt to install a top-tether point for a child seat. The past Tesla Model 3 had this, now-missing, feature for the rear middle seat arrangement.

The be more specific, the upgraded Model 3 brings rear middle top-tether anchor points but it’s accessible because there’s no flap on the parcel shelf.

For now, there’s no official announcement made by the Australian Motor Vehicle Authority on whether to force stop the Upgraded Tesla Model 3 or conduct a wide recall.

However, Drive reports that Tesla is pausing the sales of Model 3 in the country from January 17. It’s also reported that the EV company is in discussion with the local authorities to resolve this matter.

Still, details on this matter are yet to come.
