Ford announced on Tuesday that it is recalling around 1.9 million Ford Explorer SUVs in the U.S. due to A-pillar trim retention clips that may not be properly engaged, allowing the trim to detach and leading to an accident.

The recall includes Ford Explorer models ranging from 2011 to 2019 and the total number of vehicles affected with this potential issue is 1,889,110.

A detached trim piece can fall off the vehicle, becoming a road hazard and increasing the risk of a car crash.

Customers of these recalled vehicles are allowed for free inspections at Ford dealers and the affected A-pillar trim will get replaced free of charge.

Ford is conducting this massive recall after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) first announced it was investigating the sports utility vehicles. This investigation was a result of 164 complaints about the trim pieces detaching on 2011 through 2019 Ford Explorer SUVs.

Still, there are no major incidents reported with this part in question.

Initially, Ford will notify owners via mail starting by March 13, 2024. The second letters, phase of letters will be mailed gradually with wide arrangements for recall procedures.

Owners can also contact Ford’s customer service to get a recall status of their vehicle. Alternatively, customers are also eligible to call the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline to find more details about this recall.
