iOS 18

Apple could bring new features with its upcoming iOS 18 software as the biggest update ever and that’s all coming this year at the annual developer conference reveals a new report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

In the latest edition of the Power On Newsletter, Gurman suggested that iOS 18, an unreleased iOS software version, will be the biggest software update for iPhones.

He said that the new operating system is seen within the company as one of the biggest iOS updates “if not the biggest in the company’s history”.

That’s all Gurman has to say about this major software release but he would bring some more stuff later on.

iOS 17:

Apple recently launched iOS 17.3 with the Stolen Device Protection feature. This capability adds another layer of protection to iPhones by blocking unverified access.

It is also making the shift from its current software architecture to comply with European digital rules. A few days ago, the Cupertino-based firm announced third-party app marketplace support for the iOS operating system.

This new change will allow iPhone users to load applications via third-party app markets. Apple is also making some changes to its App Store to enable third-party in-app purchase gateways.

iOS 17.4 beta is carrying these new EU-related changes for developers and it will release in March for all iPhone users. However, most of these new features are coming only for European users.

iOS 18:

The smartphone industry is rapidly moving toward Artificial Intelligence (AI) and that’s the case with the iPhone, which is lagging in this area. Its South Korean rival Samsung also launched an AI-powered feature with recent Galaxy S24 flagship devices.

In that case, iOS 18 would be more AI-centric rather than any other changes in the looks of this software. But there’s a lot that could change until the 2024 WWDC.
