Apple revealed on Monday that its iOS 17 operating system version has covered 76 percent of iPhones sold in the last four years.

iOS 17 was introduced at Apple’s WWDC developer conference in June 2023 and it brought numerous new features. However, the public release happened in September and the company dropped the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X from the eligible device list.

This is the first time when Apple shared statics about the iOS 17 installations since its public release alongside the iPhone 15 series.

As of February 4th, 76 percent of the iPhones are running iOS 17, 20 percent of them are still on iOS 16 and 4 percent of those are still using an old iOS version.

Among all iPhones, 66 percent are now using iOS 17 while 23 percent are using iOS 16, and 11 percent of users have older iOS versions. Note: These figures reflect all of the active iPhones around the globe.

Compared to iOS 17, its predecessor had an 81 percent installation rate in all devices launched in the last four years according to the data released in February 2023.

15 percent were running iOS 16 and 4 percent of those had an old iOS build. The overall devices at that time had 72 percent iOS 16 installations and 20 percent iOS 15.

The comparison in installation rate and overall installations is visible but it’s also not huge. Still, the software could add more installations in the time of coming months.
