Apple is working smart ring and early reports suggest that the company is nearly ready to produce a commercial version of such a product.

Korean media ETnews reports that Apple is likely to leverage its smart wearable medical technologies to build a smart ring. The company has registered patents and trademarks around smart ring devices.

Last November the iPhone maker applied for a smart ring electric system at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

People related to this matter suggest that Apple has been actively exploring smart ring technologies for several years and it is about to achieve a product or commercial development.

A smart ring equips sensors to measure health vitals, offers wireless connectivity, and may bring other advanced features such as tap-to-payments. The form factor of the device makes it more unique due to its ease of access.

This gadget is becoming a trending wearable product and its market is led by Finnish healthcare company Oura. The company first introduced such a product in 2016. Still, Oura has not gathered enough popularity and left a huge marketplace for other major developers.

Unlike Apple, Samsung has already briefed its plans for a Galaxy Ring during Unpacked 2024 in January. The report also predicts that Samsung may bring a full presentation on Galaxy Ring at the second Unpack event in July this year.

The device is expected to feature blood flow measurement, electrocardiogram, sleep measurement, and remote control to interact with smart devices. This Samsung ring could go into the production stage in the second quarter of this year.

Market research shows that global smart ring sales could boom from the current $20 million to $197 million in 2031. Industry analyst believes that smart rings could grow rapidly in many markets alongside smartphones.

So, there’s a huge chance that more of the tech companies will join the rush to make smart rings and enter the competition in the early stage.
