Two new EV motor core plants will open in Poland and Mexico

South Korea’s Posco International will build two new electric vehicle (EV) motor core production plants in Poland and Mexico to increase its production for overseas supplies.

This decision was made in a board meeting last week and officially announced today in the country. These two additions will lead the overall EV motor core capacity to 7 million by 2030. It will represent about 10 percent of the overall EV motor core sold in the global market.

The electric motor core is the main inner part of an electric motor to generates magnetic flux to produce motion in the rotor through electromagnetic induction. These are made up of stack steel laminations, alloys of cobalt and iron, and aluminum or magnesium die casting.

Sites:

A 100,000-square-meter site in the city of Brzeg in southwestern Poland will host its manufacturing plant. This place is known as the home of many big tech manufacturing facilities.

The ground for this site will break in June and aim to compete in May 2025. Once completed, the site will produce up to 1.2 million units by 2030.

The second plant will be constructed in northeastern Mexico right next to its existing plant in Ramos Arizpe in May and aim to conclude in March 2025. This factory in Mexico will add 2.5 million units per year in production.

The company will operate in five countries including South Korea, Mexico, Poland, India, and China after these two additions. Posco said that the plant will supply components to Hyundai Mtoros for the global market.
