Rivian announced the March software update for Rivian R1T and R1S electric vehicles with new improvements and feature additions for the users.

Navigation:

The center display now has improved route selection and estimated time of arrival (ETA). It shows fast rerouting guidance when the vehicle diverges from the current route.

The route line gets different colors to show the route legs. The map style has been enhanced to show map tilts and different map orientations.

The update improves navigation stability and map rendering performance so it can appear fast on the display. Trip planning expands the maximum number of stops to 10.

Entry and Exit:

These appear to be the most interesting additions to Rivian owners during entry and exit inside these vehicles. The update adds four improvements to this section as follows.

First, the automatic movement of the seat and steering wheel has increased consistency after you enter an unlocked vehicle that is asleep.

Second, the seat and steering wheel now continue to automatically adjust when you use the string wheel controls to change the volume, answer a phone call, or open a garage door.

Third, you can stop the automatic movement of the seat and steering wheel by pressing the left/right thumb control button on the left side/right of the steering wheel.

Fourth, automatic seat and steering adjustments are added when you remove the driver seat belt or open the driver-side door after you press the Park button. It is applied before the vehicle fully shifts into the Park.

Additions:

In the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TMPS) section, Rivian R1T and R1S can show the last known tire pressure on the “Gauge View” in the Drive Modes app. However, It may take a few minutes for the vehicle to note its last reading after the software update.

Rivian has increased the airflow for defrost and defog features to increase the speed of clearing the windshield. This change will occur while keeping the internal climate comfortable.

The vehicle will now show estimated charging costs on the center and driver displays when you charge using the Rivian mobile app or Plug & Charge.

The carmaker has improved the estimated remaining charge time for an active Climate Schedule. You can save minor seat position adjustments to your driver profile.

Improvements:

There are some restrictions added to prevent inadvertent changes and the vehicle won’t respond to certain features from the key fob or Rivian mobile app:

  • First, a window will be deactivated during Drive, Reverse, or Car Wash mode.
  • Second, lock/unlock disabled while in Drive or Reverse.

Reengaging Highway Assist after a lane change received smoothness improvements.

Fixes:

Rivian has fixed an issue where a low battery warning appears in the navigation notification. Another fix applied to an issue in which the overhead lights didn’t turn on if you opened a door while the vehicle was asleep.

Here are some fixes for the infotainment system:

  • An issue that prevented Spotify’s Library tab from loading the first time.
  • An issue that caused Spotify to load a previous user’s playlists.
  • Issue in which the icons on the driver screen incorrectly switched between day and night modes.
  • An issue that caused an emergency phone call using the Phone app to fail.

The backup camera view is receiving stability improvements. Last but not least, Rivian has improved the 12 V battery replacement notification and recovery if the battery health is very low.

Rivian has added a whole bunch of improvements, fixes, and optimizations with the March software update for R1T and R1s and you can get these on your models.
