Japanese battery leader Panasonic and Automotive company Mazda Motor have signed a cooperation agreement for the supply of cylindrical vehicle lithium-ion batteries.

The agreement follows a year-long discussion between the two companies which started in June 2023. The agreement aims to build a medium to long-term partnership for the supply of cylindrical lithium-ion batteries.

This battery type offers improved heat dissipation performance compared to square batteries due to its large heat dissipation area. The battery layout is also suitable for different combinations and suits the comprehensive layout of EVs.

Both of these firms are also committing support for global challenges such as the mitigation of global warming, and promoting sustainable growth within the automotive and battery sectors. The cooperation will also create new jobs and focus talent development.

Meanwhile, Mazda has not revealed its plans with the cylindrical battery but it announced to share more information about the collaborated projects soon.
