Tesla is expanding FSD trial to Canada

Tesla initiated a full self-driving (supervised) trial rollout yesterday in the U.S. and today, the EV maker is expanding FSD trials in Canada.

Tesla owners are now receiving emails from the company with information about the FSD trial (for 30 days) and its end date.

Tesla FSD can self-drive the vehicle almost anywhere. It can change lanes, select forks to follow navigation routes, drive alongside other vehicles, and detect objects. It can make turns and detect traffic as well as stop signs.

This version of the FSD trail is “Supervised”. That means the car requires a driver on the seat and it should be paying attention to the road. You should know that FSD doesn’t make the vehicle autonomous.

The vehicle allows you to take the controls and disengage FSD anytime while driving.

The FSD trial in Canada is available for Tesla models with FSD-capable hardware and it will be available until the end of April this year.

This trial comes amid the company’s trying to get parity in product rollout among the two North American markets. However, different regulatory procedures may become a major hurdle in achieving this aim.

Rohan Patel, Senior VP For Policy at Tesla recently shared some of the details on social media site X, formerly known as Twitter.

He wrote that the company is working with Transport Canada, a body that is responsible for transportation policies and programs in the country.

Patel says Tesla has been engaging with Transport Canada to improve FSD for users. A major topic of this discussion is FSD subscription which is still limited to the U.S.

If the trial ends, the customers cannot use monthly subscriptions in the country to keep the FSD capability. Tesla on the other hand said that it’s working on this matter to bring subscriptions as soon as possible.
