Ford reports 86% EV sales increase in first quarter 2024

Ford today shared its sales result for the first quarter of 2024 and said that its electric vehicle (EV) business has achieved an 86 percent year-over-year growth for the first three months of this year in the U.S.

The automaker says it sold 20,223 EVs in the first quarter and is the only company trailing Tesla in the U.S. in this segment. Mustang Mach-E accounts for 9,589 units through this quarter with a 77 percent growth.

F-150 Lightning on the other hand sold 7,743 units with an 80 percent yearly increment. Ford’s E-Transit electric van accounted for 2,891 units with a 148 percent increment compared to Q1 2023.

Hybrids come next as the company reported 77 percent year-over-year growth for the Ford Maverick with 19,660 unit sales. All hybrid Ford vehicles registered a 42 percent hike in sales to 38,421 units.

Ford is expecting this growth to continue with a new version of the F-150 hybrid shipping to dealers. Andrew Frick, President of Ford Blue said the new F-150 is bringing new user experiences across gas, hybrid, and EV segments.

Overall, the company sold 216,997 vehicles with a 15 percent year-over-year increase. Ford SUVs top the chart with 58,465 sales achieved by Explorer three-row SUV. Escape accounted for 36,595 sales and Bronco Sport gained 31,565 unit sales.

The company’s Lincoln brand achieved 24,894 vehicle sales including 9,231 vehicles from the new Lincoln Nautilus vehicle.

It is revealed that the commercial transit van sales totaled 39,890 units which is a 25 percent increment.
