iPhone 17 series to bring a ‘Slim’ model to replace ‘Plus’
Next year’s iPhone 17 series will bring a new “Slim” model that could potentially eliminate the “Plus” variant with its designs and schematics.
Apple has been launching a Plus model for years and the company labels this variant with top productivity at a reasonable price point. For example, the iPhone 15 Plus released last year comes with unique color options and long-lasting battery life.
Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu said that Apple will introduce an “iPhone 17 Slim” model. Despite its name revelation, there are no further details on the specifications or design of this device.
Ross Young, a display supply chain analyst said that the company will shrink the size of the iPhone 17 Plus. This perhaps links us to the Slim model.
Since the iPhone 14 series, Apple has kept the size of standard and Plus models parallel to the Pro and Pro Max. This strategy may change with the upcoming iPhone 16 series. The iPhone 16 will carry a 6.1-inch screen and iPhone 16 Plus 6.7-inch. The Pro model could equip a new 6.3-inch screen and 6.9-inch display on Pro Max.
So the change in all models becomes more obvious this year compared to the past, especially in appearance.
In line with the above input, the iPhone 17 Slim could reduce the display to 6.6 inches. This could be a reasonable adjustment in the size and enable cutting down the weight and thickness of the device. The iPhone 15 Plus is 160.9 mm tall, 77.8 mm wide and 7.80mm thick. The model weighs 201 grams despite carrying a 6.7-inch screen compared to the 221-gram size of the Pro Max model.
The difference in weight also depends on the frame material. The Plus model uses aluminum and Pro model uses Titanium along with other upgrades.
The idea of iPhone 17 Slim indicates that Apple is pursuing a whole new option for buyers and it could be thinking in the right direction. However, we’ll have to wait until a solid leak on the design comes forward.
