Stack Overflow and OpenAI announced a new API partnership to train technical data for large language models (LLM). Stack Overflow is the largest online developer community, which helps to learn, share solutions, and solve program issues.

Under this partnership, both companies will work together via OverflowAPI access to provide OpenAI users and customers with a vetted data foundation that AI tools need to find a solution to a programming problem.

OpenAI trains this data directly to ChatGPT and will provide answers with source links and prompted data sets. The collaboration will improve model performance for developers of their products.

This integration will help OpenAI improve its AI models with enhanced content and feedback from the Overflow community and provide attribution to the community within ChatGPT for deep engagement.

Stack Overflow will use OpenAI models including the development of OverflowAI and work with OpenAI to access insights from internal testing for a better performance.

“Through this industry-leading partnership with OpenAI, we strive to redefine the developer experience, fostering efficiency and collaboration through the power of community, best-in-class data, and AI experiences,” said Prashanth Chandrasekar, CEO of Stack Overflow.

Both firms will bring the first set of new integrations and capabilities in the first half of 2024. Afterward, both firms will deepen the development of community-driven features.
