Baidu Maps V20 for Tesla

China’s Baidu has officially Maps V20 is now available for Tesla Model S, 3, X, and Y equipped with AMD car chips. This new upgrade arrives with software versions 2024.14.8 and 2024.14.9 via over-the-air (OTA) update.

Released in April, Baidu Maps version 20 is a desktop mobile web-map service. It brings a new lane-level, 3d navigation interface for a better user experience. The maps carry traffic light countdowns, lane instructions, and surveillance alerts.

The map provides precision for the navigation system similar to a mobile. It has a detailed 1:1 visualization of highways, expressways, and urban roads including lane markings and bus lanes.

The version 20 can plan routes to minimize lane changes and reduce the difficulty and frequency of lane changes to improve the driving experience. The new map technology was announced for Tesla, Huawei, JiYue, and a brand collaboration between Baidu and Geely. However, Baidu delayed the rollout of Tesla models.

Tesla and Baidu have been collaborating since 2020 and this new development is possibly related to Full Self Driving (FSD). The map service provider is one of the 20 Chinese companies that have received a top-level, map-surveying qualification for an advanced driver assistance system.

The integration was announced in May after the Tesla CEO visited Beijing to set up the FSD launch. Moreover, there are reports that FSD approval could also lead to Robotaxi’s launch in the country.

The electric vehicle (EV) maker is preparing to register FSD through the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and may get approval by this year. Meanwhile, Tesla has announced no estimated date for FSD release for China.
