AI company xAI is rolling out Grok 2 (mini) for X social media users with Premium and Premium+ subscriptions under beta access. This new Grok version enables X users to generate AI images with text prompts.

Grok is a large language model (LLM) developed by xAI and integrated into X last November. The company has pushed a major update 1.5 with an increased parameter for better performance.

However, Grok 2 takes the performance to a new level with its new supercomputer cluster. The company is using about 100,000 H100 chipsets to power this new model. Grok 2 is still in the early stage of development and it will bring more features onboard until it steps out of the test mode.

New Changes

The Grok 2 mini is now available on both web and mobile platforms. You have to update the mobile app to the latest version to access the mini (beta).

A major change is made to the web application. You will see the “Grok 2 mini (beta) on top. This label also has an option to enable fun mode with a toggle button. If disabled, the model will respond in the “Regular” mode.

The “Grok” logo and the prompt bar are now placed in the middle of the screen like a search engine. A new section is added beneath the prompt bar to inform users about the use cases including:

  • Solving code problem
  • Know the latest stories on X
  • Get help in writing text content
  • Get recommendations for a game

Generative Image

The biggest change in this model comes with the ability to generate images. You can now write a text on the prompt bar and explain what kind of image and it will give you the results.

No, Grok 2 mini (beta) is not a full release and xAI will be testing a new generative image feature with the mini model before it goes wide with Grok 2.0.
