GM fired more than 1,000 software developers

General Motors (GM) has fired more than 1,000 salaried software developers and services employees.

CNBC reported that these 1,000 salaried employees will be affected from global offices. The company applied these changes after recent changes in leadership changes overseeing the operations.

The company has not revealed the exact number of employees but 1,000 employees would be laid off including 600 in Warren, Michigan.

These employees account for about 1.3% of the overall salaried workforce of 76,000 as of the end of last year. GM is taking this step to reduce costs and in many instances, employee headcount.

GM is already spending huge investment on all-electric vehicles and software-defined vehicles.

The software and services sector covers a wide range of segments including automaker, infotainment, OnStar brand, and growing areas such as subscription and other vehicle features and development.
