Tesla AI Chief Ashok Elluswamy has said that the vehicle’s cameras are now calibrating automatically as the vehicle moves through the manufacturing line in the factory.

Yesterday, Tesla published two videos of new vehicles moving through the production line to the loading area by self-driving themselves. These vehicles are maneuvering through the incoming Teslas and following lane rules to reach the destination.

The company has also shared a video of a 1.2-mile ride that a new car has been conducting with unsupervised full self-driving (FSD), which is yet to be released for public users.

Camera calibration is required to adjust the position and the software to work according to the autopilot and self-driving as well as other parking assist features. Since Tesla only uses a vision-based system, onboard cameras become a crucial part of its safety protocols.

Omead Afshar, Chief of Staff at Tesla has mentioned that this calibration has a significant impact on the manufacturing and post-processing including driving vehicles autonomously from the end of the manufacturing line direct to the outbound lots.
