Tesla Megafactory Shanghai rolls out first Megapack marking production start

Tesla officially kicked off production at its newly built Megafactory in Shanghai on Tuesday, marking a major increase in its megapack production capacity.
The company posted this information via its social media account on X and China’s Weibo while announcing the first Megapack rollout from the production line.
“We’ve witnessed the incredible speed of Shanghai and Tesla once again. I’m excited to have this factory kick off an exciting year for Tesla” said Mike Snyder, vice-president of Tesla, at the unveiling ceremony.
This factory covers around 200,000 square meters and was built with an investment of more than 1.4 billion yuan (over $200 million) based on the data revealed by the Lin-gang Special Area of Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone, where this new Megafactory was constructed.

Tesla completed the construction at this factory in December 2024 and announced a production status for the first quarter of 2025. It took around 8 months to complete the facility and produce the first product.
The facility will start with a 10,000-unit annual production capacity or 40 gigawatt-hours of energy storage. The company will ramp up this production to more capacity output.
This factory will also contribute to Tesla’s goal to improve storage deployment by up to 50 percent year on year in 2025. Furthermore, Tesla has officially announced that its new Megapacks will soon be shipped to Australia.
