Apple today released a new iOS 18.4 beta and its code has revealed some links to Tesla NACS inclusion in Apple Maps. Aaron from Macrumors has shared some code references from the latest iOS beta, which mentions the following text codes:

  • NACS_adapter_required
  • You need to use a charging adapter on this route

These two strings could mean that the Apple Maps users could be reminded of the charging adapter for non-Tesla EV owners to carry a NACS supported adapter to charge their vehicle on the stations in the selected route.

There is a possibility that the updated map will be used for next-generation of CarPlay supported vehicles to provide a better route to avaiable chargers nearby their route selection.

This new development takes us back to the comment from Donna Dickson, Chief Program Engineer for the Mustang Mach-E. Donna mentioned posted in late January that compatible Tesla Supercharger sites will be coming to Apple Maps EV routing for Apple CarPlay. However, the Ford executive didn’t mention any specific timeline for this release.

Last year, Google also released an Android Auto update to improve EV with NACS support. You can now see J1 772 plug in the electric vehicle setting.

Users can turn on or off the available charging plug in the settings and show them on the map.
