SpaceX Starship Flight 9 launch date is scattered through May

SpaceX could be targeting May 2025 to launch Starship Flight Test 9, which indicates that the rocket maker is almost ready for this massive rocket’s 9th flight.

According to a local maritime notice, a rocket launch operation is scheduled to take place near Boca Chica, Texas. As usual, the notice doesn’t mention SpaceX, but it’s well-known that this is the hometown of the Starship.

On March 6, 2025, SpaceX lifted off 8th Starship flight test from Boca Chica, Texas, firing 33 Raptor engines and propelled the integrated space vehicle through a nominal first-stage ascent.

The first stage performed well during and marked a successful return to the launch site for a tower landing. However, the complications with the second stage has caused the ship to blast en route to sub-orbit.

SpaceX has confirmed that the reason for this blast was a fire in the aft section of the ship, which resulted in the loss of several Raptor engines. This event was followed by Ship’s uncontrollable altitude, which led to its rotation and eventually blacked out communication.

This was the second time when the rocket maker successfully deployed the upper stage and reached the ascent burn phase but soon met its end.

The event occurred for the past two flights has stopped the company from testing the newly employed ship through the sub-orbital flight. This could change with Flight 9 as SpaceX is even more precautious over the ship’s engine ignition post-stage separation. For now, SpaceX has not shared a launch date for Starship Flight 9.
