Rivian has officially announced that some of its vehicles are now facing a network performance issue that is impacting the performance of its in-vehicle entertainment services. However, the number of those affected is currently limited, as mentioned by the EV maker.

Irvine, California-based EV company has not revealed the specific reason behind these network issues, but it’s expected to originate after a recent software update, causing buffering and playback failures that persist despite resets.

Rivian’s infotainment system is built on Android Auto OS, which has been struggling with network connections. A thread on Rivianforums shed some light on this long-standing issue, where Rivian users have been discussing their experience with poor internet quality and glitches while streaming music via the Apple Music service.

Rivian enthusiasts on X showed their frustrations with the issue and how it’s harming their user experience.

“I’m glad they finally are admitting this is a problem. Apple Music has been flaky since this weekend and I’ve had other map issues as well.” wrote user @pnwRivian on X.

The majority of users have agreed that this network performance issue is affecting Apple Music services, which have stopped working on Rivian vehicles. Meanwhile, the company has announced that it is working with network service providers to resolve the issue.

Update:

Wassym Bensaid, Rivian’s Software Chief, said a fix is coming soon for this issue.

“Recent disruptions impacting some entertainment apps are due to a network issue being addressed by our partners. Expecting fix this morning,” he wrote on X.
