Rivian software update 2025.18 revamps energy app and improves charging speed

Rivian has released a new software update for 2025.18 for its Gen 1 and Gen 2 R1 vehicles, with a new energy app including detailed statistics about charging and energy flow throughout these vehicles to achieve efficiency.
The Energy app has a refreshed user interface for easy-to-spot features, increased UI visibility, and better design. It now consists of two tabs: Charging (for energy inflow) and Energy Monitor (for energy outflow).
These sections have a repeatable layout with left, center, and right panes to improve a consistent experience in your vehicle and mobile app. This experience includes Gear Guard expressions to show your vehicle’s energy efficiency.
Charging insights
The charging tab will show energy flow into your vehicle’s battery pack during a charging session compared to the energy being used by other vehicle systems.
The Active charge session view reveals details such as battery, overall system consumption, HVAC usage, and connected accessories. The Energy Monitor tab will come with a chart to show climate, outlets, and drive systems’ energy consumption during go or park.
Trip Target
The Rivian mobile app or the vehicle screen will show you charging stops while using navigation for a trip, which will make it easy to see recommended charge targets.
Energy Monitor
An interactive graph in this tab will show you projected range details and how it’s changing over time before, during, or after driving. A Gear Guard expression will show you the efficiency level – high, low, or normal for current conditions.
New graphs
The new Energy app introduces responsive, adjustable, and dynamic insights of your energy with real-time data updates and synchronization between the vehicle and mobile.
New precondition feature
You can now warm or cool your R1’s battery pack according to your preference, which includes, includes pre-conditioning before visiting a charger, which will optimize charging speed at arrival. You will also see a clear banner, which will indicate when the battery is warming or cooling or when any of these is complete.
Faster charging
Rivian has confirmed that Gen 1 Max Pack and all Gen 2 vehicles will now charge even faster at DC chargers. This will reduce charging time and improve the speed in different temperatures. According to the EV maker, the Gen 2 Large Pack will now charge at up to 215kW, which makes it 15 minutes faster than before.
“We used computer simulation to pinpoint areas for improvement at the cell level and then virtually tested and then virtually tested and refined these solutions in a simulated vehicle environment covering extensive real-world conditions and validated to achieve faster charging times,” wrote Rivian.
Multi-factor drive and new autonomy visuals
Another major change in this update is multi-factor drive mode, which lets the owner approve every drive. Gen 1 and Gen 2 vehicles shows a better autonomy visuals of the surrounding vehicles in the driver display.
Rivian is rolling out in 2025.18 software update for Gen 1 and Gen 2 vehicles, and it will be available gradually.
